Weeona 2008

Lee and I had a much needed vacation - and a long one! - during July. We went to his family's cabin in northern WI called 'weeona,' which I love. It was a good mix of family time, alone time and a weekend with friends.
We flew in on the evening of the 9th to be with family for Lee's dad's 80th birthday celebration. Along with Galina, all of his kids were there -

Peter & Christine (AZ),

Kenny with Yana (11) and Charlotte (8) (AK),

Stephen & Tigris with Cedar (4 on July 7) and Temple (2) (CA),

Lee & Amy (MA), and Adelle (WI for now). Peter, Kenny and Stephen's mom Barbara was also there to join in for the festivities.
Adelle, Charlotte, Yana and Cedar making Big Lee's tractor decorated carrot birthday cake. It was really good :)

One of Big Lee's goals was to make it to a Packers game at Lambeau Field. Lee and I searched and saved and were thrilled to finally be able to get him to a game. We hope Favre comes back - but only if he plays for the Packers!!!
Here he is learning that he's going to go to a game with Little Lee in August.

The family staggered their departures through Saturday and Sunday, and on Sunday evening Lee and I were left to ourselves for the whole week. It was bliss. I am so grateful for the time we got to spend, just he and I, after the craziness of this summer and with the craziness to come. We had a great time, even though it poured for two of our four full alone days at the lake.

As is now a tradition, we ended our week by inviting all of our friends to come up to the cabin for some R&R. We had a smaller turnout this year in large part to ridiculous airline prices, but we had a great time. We grilled, swam, played Scrabble and poker (Lee won!), relaxed and just enjoyed being with our friends, most of whom we hadn't seen for at least two years.

All in all, a great vacation.
